Speedibake
Colinsway, Wakefield, WF2 9RJ
The Project
At its two bakeries in Yorkshire, Speedibake makes muffins, doughnuts and specialty breads. The company requires extensive, high-quality illumination to ensure its staff output remains excellent. However, Speedibake realised that it was wasting money through a lack of efficiency in its lighting, so it chose to upgrade to low-energy lamps, using ‘Save It Easy®’.
Implementation
Speedibake carried out a test of 20 Save It Easy units, in order to replace the lighting in the ingredients store at its Wakefield site. Following the success of this test, Speedibake chose to undertake a rolling programme of lamp upgrades – buying 20, 40, 60 Save It Easy units, as funds became available, and installing new, energy-efficient lamps as the old ones began to fail. What’s more, Speedibake was able to remove every alternate light, because the energy-efficient lamps were bright enough to cope.
Savings
Speedibake saved approximately 50% energy on each lamp it changed, plus 100% energy savings on the lamps it permanently removed.
Speedibake's initial investment of £383 will allow the company to make total savings on its electricity bills in the region of £2,420, over the estimated project life of 6.6 years. Speedibake is also set to save 17 Tonnes of CO2, on the test installation alone.
Project Payback
Speedibake achieved payback on the Save It Easy units in just ten months.
